2010

Strong growth confirmed by latest results

Latest annual results confirmed strong growth. Over ten years, Lombard has maintained compound annual growth of 25%, bringing the total funds under management to almost €20 billion in 2010.

The value of new business in 2010 rose to €3.5 billion according to the latest annual results, published in March 2011.

2009

Lombard relocates to larger offices

 

The year marked Lombard’s relocation to a new, larger head office building in Luxembourg to accommodate growing staff numbers, that now exceed 400.

Lombard’s robust results withstand financial crisis

At a time when many financial institutions around the world were struggling with major shocks, Lombard performed robustly, in contrast with the 30-40% drop experienced in most financial markets.

2007

Spreading business harmony

World-renowned violinist and an exceptional virtuoso in the cultural and business world, Miha Pogacnik, addressed the theme “Harmony and Creativity in Business Partnerships” at Lombard’s 5th Private Banking Seminar.

Mr Pogacnik inspired the audience with his thoughts on the role of creative thinking as a key driver for business growth.

2006

Lombard establishes its Swiss branch

Lombard opens a Branch in Zurich and a representative office in Geneva. Lombard is authorised under the new Swiss insurance law and will offer its tailor-made wealth planning solutions to the international clients of Swiss private banks and asset managers.

2005

Business thinker challenges business perceptions

The keynote speaker at Lombard’s 3rd Private Banking Seminar, Dr Patrick Dixon, emphasised the importance of planning change, thinking ahead at every level and always looking forward.

2004

Lombard joined the Friends Provident Group, 13 years after its foundation. “We are delighted with this move” commented Lombard’s Chairman, John Stone.

2003

Lombard holds its 1st Private Banking Seminar

Lombard inaugurated its annual Private Banking Seminar, the most prestigious event organised by Lombard during the business year with attendees from amongst Europe’s leading private bankers and wealth planners.

The first speaker, Philip Marcovici, partner with Baker & McKenzie, told the select audience how the world of private banking and wealth management was becoming increasingly transparent. Financial institutions must adapt to this changed environment, he said.

2001

Lombard celebrates 10th birthday

A decade after its foundation, Lombard held over €2bn in funds under management, helping it to become the top-ranked Luxembourg-based pan-European life assurer.

In the same year, Lombard entered the Spanish market with tailor-made solutions for Spanish residents.

1999

Lombard ranked No. 1 in Luxembourg

Lombard expands its presence to 8 European markets. In the same year, Lombard is rated the top life insurance company in Luxembourg with new business premium income of over €500m.

1998

Lombard exceeds €1bn marker for funds under management

Growth continues as funds under management break through the €1bn mark, a key financial indicator for our business sector.

We consolidated our pan-European network of private banks and independent financial advisors, continued to create innovative products in response to changing investment and fiscal environment, and our costs were controlled within budget. World’s smallest insurance company forms ground breaking /partnership with world’s largest private bank

Lombard establishes its first cross-border private banking partnership with the world’s largest private bank.

1995

‘Privatbancassurance’ is born

Lombard pioneered Privatbancassurance – the concept that combines private banking and investment management services with the sophisticated use of life assurance as a financial planning structure for wealthy investors and their families.

1994

New legislation opens European doors for Lombard

The implementation of the European 3rd Life Directive opens the way for Lombard to develop a pan-European platform for future growth.

Markets served by Lombard’s solutions for cross-border distribution of insurance contracts expand to include Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden and the UK.

1991

Lombard founded with staff of five

Lombard was founded in July 1991 by Chairman, John Stone. He envisaged Lombard as a niche market player to capitalise on the creation of the single European market and offer specialised life assurance products to high net worth individuals.

Lombard was inaugurated at Cercle Municipal, Luxembourg, at a ceremony attended by Luxembourg’s then Prime Minister and the future President of the European Commission, Jacques Santer.
